As Indian authorities pressure mobile phone manufacturers to adopt the high-speed network, Apple and Samsung Electronics stated on Wednesday that they would upgrade the software for their 5G-enabled phones in India by December.
According to industry sources, the company announced that it would release software updates to recent models, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE, which do not currently support the network.
According to Apple, they are working with the carrier partners in India to offer the finest 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed.
In December, iPhone owners will receive software updates allowing 5G. Moreover, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi debuted 5G services on 1st October. Leading telecom provider Reliance Jio said it would offer the service in four locations and rival Bharti Airtel in eight.
According to a company spokeswoman, in the mid of November, all of Samsung India’s 5G devices would receive updates. According to a government document by Reuters, senior bureaucrats from India’s telecoms and IT departments will preside over a meeting on Wednesday for early 5G adoption. Executives from Apple, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi, as well as domestic telecom operators Reliance, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have been invited to attend them.
The meeting would be facilitated by the secretaries of the DoT and the Ministry of Electronics and IT, according to PTI, on Tuesday. To deploy 5G in India, the authorities will consider the involvement of handset manufacturers and telecom operators in providing software upgrades for all 5G devices to prioritize the software upgrade. While Jio has begun beta tests, Bharti Airtel is the sole operator to have commercially introduced 5G services.
